① GAM’S is
This French female quartet is made up of former choir members of Gilbert Bcaud and members of the vocal ensemble Les Djinns. The initials of their first names are the origin of the group’s name. Gam’s was proposed by the magazine Salut les Copains during a free concert held in June 1963 in front of 150,000 spectators at the Place de la Nation in Paris. They were also choir members of Claude Franois. This CD [Twistin’ the Rock] contains 20 songs from five 45 rpm records released in France in 1963 and 1964, and two songs released in Germany. Among the original songs, there are many British and American cover songs, such as the 7th song "Shut Down" by the Beach Boys, the 11th song "All My Loving" by the Beatles, the 22nd song "Baby Love" by the Supremes, and the 15th song "My Boy Lollipop". Her singing is more refined than the lively French <Parisiennes>, and is closer to American and British girl groups. The intro to the 20th song is similar to Saori Minami's 4th single "Junjetsu". Excerpts from some overseas music sites
② is a French singer who was active from the end of the 50s to the 70s. Rita Cadillac (born Paris in 1936 - died April 5, 1995) was a French dancer, singer, and actress. Cadillac began her musical career as an accordion player at the age of 13 under the alias "Ritalella". In 1952 she was a pin-up model and took the name "Rita Cadillac". Cadillac appeared in films such as Soirs de Paris (1954), Porteocane (1958), La prostitution (1962), [2] Un clairdelune Maubeuuge (1962), Any Number Can Win (1963), etc. Excerpt from an overseas site
There seem to be many recordings from the early 60s, but it seems to be the generation before "YE-YE". There is not much information, but there seems to be a female singer with the same name in Brazil, but she seems to have been active in the 80s. The title "SOUVENIRS, SOUVENIRS" is a hit song by Johnny Hallyday. Overall, it is a movie insert song & chanson & twist-style French. It is an easy-to-listen-to French song.
③ is a book that features French female singers who were called "French pop" in Japan during the "YE-YE" era, which was popular in France in the 60s. It is not an all-encompassing structure like the Japanese idol dictionary, but it introduces each singer with a focus on <French Lolita>. In the second half, male artists such as Michel Polnareff are also featured. This book on 60s French Lolita, which had a major influence on the birth of female idol culture in Japan from the 70s, is a must-have for French pop fans.
Published by Peyotl Kobo in 1996 (there is no commentary, but the above-mentioned LES GAM'S is also shown in a photo on page 33)
